Chaperones

We are committed to providing a safe, respectful and dignified environment for all patients.

What is a chaperone?
A chaperone is a trained member of our staff who can be present during an examination or procedure to support you and help maintain your comfort and dignity.

When are chaperones offered?
A chaperone is available for any consultation and will be offered for intimate examinations. We aim to inform patients about chaperones when booking appointments and again during consultations.

Can I request a chaperone?
Yes. You can request a chaperone at any time. Please tell the receptionist or clinician if you would like one.

Who can be a chaperone?
Chaperones are trained members of the practice team. Family members or friends do not replace a formal chaperone, although they may also be present if you wish.

Your choice
You may decline a chaperone. This will be respected and documented in your medical record. Where possible, we will consider your preferences for the chaperone, such as gender or cultural needs.

If a chaperone is not available
If a chaperone is not available, you may be offered another appointment or the examination may proceed only if you are happy to do so.

Confidentiality
All chaperones are bound by the same confidentiality rules as the rest of the healthcare team.
